ChatGPT and your own notes, on your phone
You are in a shop, on a platform or outside a meeting room, the phone is what you have, and what you need is something you wrote down weeks ago. ChatGPT is on the phone. Your notes are somewhere it cannot see.
Yes, if your notes are in Pando: add Pando to ChatGPT on the web once, at a computer, and from then on ChatGPT reaches your outline from your phone too, as it did on a Free account in a test on 23 September 2026. Whether it can also write into it from the phone is not established, so do the writing at the computer or type it into Pando yourself.
Set it up
- On a computer, open ChatGPT on the web, then Settings, then Security and login, and turn on Developer mode. The phone app cannot do this step.
- Go to Plugins, select +, and create one with https://pando.ink/mcp under Connection.
- Approve the connection when ChatGPT sends you back to Pando. After that, ChatGPT reaches Pando on your phone too.
This setup is the one part that needs a computer. OpenAI documents it for ChatGPT on the web only, and in a test on a Free account on 23 September 2026 the phone could not do it. Set up on the computer instead, ChatGPT connected and wrote a bullet into the outline, and after the setup it used Pando from the phone too. If that browser is not signed in to Pando yet, Pando signs you in first and comes straight back to the approval. If you ask for the emailed link, open it in that same browser on the computer, because the approval goes on wherever the link is opened. OpenAI’s own pages still list only paid plans for developer mode, so what your account offers may differ, and its help says that on Business only admins can use developer mode.
Notes you keep in another app have to come into Pando first. Settings, then Import a file…, takes a Markdown, OPML, plain text, CSV or TSV file.
What is known about the phone, and what is not
- Known: after a setup on a computer, ChatGPT used Pando from a phone, measured on a Free account on 23 September 2026. OpenAI’s newest plugin page says plugins "work in Chat and Work across ChatGPT on the web, desktop, and mobile", without saying whether that covers one added in developer mode.
- Not known: whether it can write into your outline from the phone. The only reports found on that are three posts in one thread on OpenAI’s forum from November 2025, and all three said it could not. One of them quotes the error: "MCP write actions are currently disabled".
- Not documented for developer mode: how the phone app picks Pando for a chat. OpenAI’s developer guide gives one way, Developer mode from the + menu. Its plugin help says to use an @ mention or open + and select More "when those controls are available for your surface and the specific plugin or app", and on 18 June 2026 the Android app’s composer got inline mentions and an updated Plugins menu.
In practice, a question about your notes needs no write. Pando marks every tool that only reads, recall, search, tree and changes among them, as read-only, and ChatGPT treats a tool without that mark as a write action. Asking ChatGPT to remember something, or to tick a task, is a write, and on a phone that is the part not established.
Reading it on the same phone
Pando runs in the phone’s browser at pando.ink/app, and added to the home screen it opens without the browser bars. Sign in with Google, or have a link sent to your email. What ChatGPT filed from the computer in the afternoon is on the phone in the evening, and you correct a line there yourself instead of asking ChatGPT to.
- Its own notes are in a bullet under Home called ChatGPT's memory, made when you approve it with Give it a bullet to remember in ticked, which is the default.
- What changed across the outline is under Changes: pick Hour, Day or Week, and it lists what was created, edited, completed or deleted, with the time. It does not say who did it.
- If Pando is open on the phone while ChatGPT writes from the computer, the bullet appears without a refresh and a chip pulses in the top bar for a few seconds. A phone has no hover, so tap the chip while it shows: it says who is writing, and that it is an agent key, writing over MCP.
What ChatGPT can reach
A connector you approve starts with your whole outline; you choose read and write, or read only. ChatGPT connects only that way, and it can still be held to one branch: open that branch, then Settings, then Agents and API keys, tap the @chatgpt row under Your agents, and press Let it reach only “…”, the bullet you are in. It then reads and writes that branch and what is under it, even if you approved it to read only, and reaches nothing else. If reading from the phone is all you want, choose Read your outline only when you approve it; it can still write in its own memory bullet. A bullet you protect refuses every change from it, and so does everything under that bullet, but a lock hides nothing: ChatGPT still reads it.
To take it back, the phone will do: Settings, then Agents and API keys, then under Keys, not under Your agents, the row @chatgpt · @chatgpt, which ends in revoke. One tap revokes it, with no second question, and the next request is refused. What it already wrote stays where it is.
When this is not the answer
- Your notes live in another app and should stay there. This connects ChatGPT to Pando, not to that app.
- You only want ChatGPT to know you on the phone. Its own memory does that with no setup, on every device signed in to your account. OpenAI’s pricing page lists it as Limited on Free and Expanded on Plus and Pro.
- You have no computer with ChatGPT on the web. The phone app cannot do the setup, and nothing here gets around that.
- ChatGPT has to write into your notes while you are out. That is not established on a phone. Write the line yourself in Pando, or leave the writing for the computer.
- You keep Lockdown Mode on. Turning on Developer mode turns Lockdown Mode off, and turning Lockdown Mode on again turns Developer mode off.
What it costs
The free plan holds 1,000 bullets, with every feature, agents included, and asks for no payment card.
