Moving your memory from ChatGPT to Claude, and not again
Switching assistants costs you everything the old one learned about you. ChatGPT keeps its memory in your OpenAI account, Claude keeps its own at Anthropic, and neither vendor documents a way for the other one to read it.
Claude imports it by copy and paste: ask ChatGPT to list everything it remembers, then paste the answer into Settings, Memory, Start import. To never do it again, keep the decisions in your outline, which both of them read.
The import, as Anthropic describes it
- Paste Anthropic’s prompt into ChatGPT. It asks for every memory in one code block, each with the date it was saved where there is one.
- In Claude, open Settings, then Memory, and choose Start import.
- Paste the answer and choose Add to memory. Claude turns it into separate entries you can review.
Anthropic’s own caveats: the import works on Free, Pro, Max and Team, on the web and in Claude Desktop. It is "experimental and still in active development", and Claude "may not retain imported personal details unrelated to work". Your chats stay behind: "it's not possible to import conversation history from another AI provider into Claude at this time."
Why a third place
An import is a copy made once. The next time you switch, or the week you use both, the copy is already stale. A branch of your outline is not a copy: Claude and ChatGPT both read it, you correct a line on your phone, and neither vendor has to let the other in.
Set it up
- Open claude.ai or the Claude desktop app, then Customize, then Connectors, then click + and choose Add custom connector.
- Give it the address https://pando.ink/mcp and approve it when Claude sends you back to Pando.
ChatGPT connects to the same address, and /connect has its steps. Tell each of them once which branch holds your decisions.
What goes where
- Claude’s memory, for how you like to work with Claude: tone, format, the corrections you gave it.
- A branch of your outline, for the projects, decisions and reasons that have to outlive any one assistant.
What it costs
Nothing, for 1,000 bullets, with agents included and no card. The tokens are paid by your own Claude and ChatGPT plans, and Pando does not meter the calls.
